Cheetah-licious Christmas
In 2004, The Cheetah Girls became a real group, insted of an on-screen group and recorded a song for Disneymania 3. After the release of the Disneymania single, they began to record their debut album in early 2005. Without a record label, Walt Disney Records decided to release the album on their label.
They finished recording in mid-2005 and the album was mixed. A release date was then set for October 11, 2005. The girls then were scheduled to go on TV guest appernces to promote the album, but were unable to as Adrienne and Kiely were busy with their other group 3LW. Insted, TRL was sent information on the group and the album. TRL's MTV News segment reported the information on the album, the group. This was also the first mention of The Cheetah Girls (TV series).
On November 11, 2005, The girls released their headliner single Cheetah-licious Christmas. The music video was not released into mainstream charts, like originally planned, but insted was shown only on the Disney Channel. The song did not chart on any mainstream chart and did not do extremely well on Radio Disney.
In two months, the album had not sold well and was not charting anywhere. Walt Disney Records wanted to release the girls new single Five More Days 'Til Christmas and hopefully have it become a hit and make the album sell better. However, the single was released but a video was not shot because of scheduling conflicts with The Cheetah Girls. The single was less successful than its predecessor and did not lead the album to selling more copies. Many did not even realize that the single had been released.
In the 2006 holiday season, the album was put onto the shelves again, with the other holiday music and the video for Cheetah-licious Christmas was again played on Disney Channel. This led to the album to chart on the Billboard pop charts, peaking at #74.
Second studio album
The Cheetah Girls plan to release their second studio album in the summer of 2007. "We'll be making a real album, not a soundtrack", Adrienne Bailon says. "Some of the music on there will be produced by will.i.am from the Black Eyed Peas", she says. "It's important for people to see us as a real musical group. We have all this great marketing around us, with the movies and other things. But we are a musical group."
